Other Stuff--Don't Use AOL

Are you thinking of getting a new internet service provider? Well, they're
all good, except AOL. Be warned, AOL is Adware. There are many reasons not
to use AOL and this is one. I used to have AOL on my laptop, before I knew
better. As I quickly found out, AOL was a worthless ISP. So I decided to get
rid of it and choose Earthlink, a much better dial-up internet service
provider. According to
http://sun.soci.niu.edu/ ~rslade/secgloss.htm,
"...adware will usually continue to generate advertising even when the
user is not running the originally desired program.". After a great hassle canceling my AOL service, I finally was free of it. So, I went to uninstalling AOL from my machine. This all went smoothly, but to my horror still said "Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by America Online" and in the corner it still showed the AOL icon in my web browser. The AOL instant messaging program, (AIM) has a nasty habit of popping up an unwanted window of whenever I sign on. Also, the "AIM Games" that AIM has, install "Wild Tangent", which is classified as adware, by Spysweeper.
